TALLER DE TAPAS - Pl. del Pi
The first trail-blazing Taller de Tapas, opened in 2003, is set on a beautiful square in the shadow of the Eglesia del Pi and a short stroll from the world famous Boqueria food market. Take a break from sightseeing to sit in the entertaining square and watch the world stroll by while fuelling up on rocket and local goat´s cheese salad, some delicious Patatas Bravas or steamed Mediterranean mussels. Or, take a table inside to watch your order being cooked from fresh in the bustling open kitchen. Converting the centuries old building into something so contemporary, yet respectful of tradition was a labour of love. So is the food that this restaurant serves.
TALLER DE TAPAS - Comtal
You can almost feel the heartbeat of the Barrio Gotico along Comtal, between the famous Palau de la Musica and Barcelona´s great gothic cathedral. It’s an enchanting pedestrian street filled with Barcelonans doing business, chatting or simply relaxing. Opened in 2007, this Taller is ideal for all those things. At first glance the dining room seems more like a traditional Cerveseria, where you sip beer or fine wine with plates cured Jabugo ham, fried small fish, pan fried wild mushrooms and bread. But look deeper inside at the spectacular open kitchen stretching along the wall, at the ancient wooden beams and wonderful stonework of this conversion, and you know that Comtal treasures a reputation for cooking, too. Home style dishes are served to a lively local crowd. It’s ideal for an informal lunch or snug evenings teeming with the unique atmosphere of old Barcelona.
TALLER DE TAPAS - Rambla Catalunya
Walk the wide, tree-lined avenue that straddles the centre of the Rambla Catalunya and you’ll come to the newest jewel of the Taller de Tapas collection. It’s a perfect lunch or breakfast spot for busy shoppers – and a wonderful place to meet and wander in the evening. You can dine al fresco at shady tables on the tree-lined boulevard (just like Scarlett Johanssen and Woody Allen in his latest film). Or you can sip a glass of cava at the bar, scanning the blackboards full of daily specials such as rice and lobster stew, or roast Pyrenean lamb with rosemary and thyme, as well as a delicious array of more traditional tapas dishes such as crisp, fried artichoke shavings or sizzling chorizos cooked in Asturian cider. This Taller, with its wooden floors and series of smaller, enchanting dining rooms has a style all of its own, with the same devotion to the highest quality, ingredient-centred food you will find at its sister branches. It offers an elegant dining experience and has a semi-private dining room ideal for larger groups.
TALLER DE TAPAS - Argenteria (Born)
Here down the old silversmith’s street in the exciting Born district, stands the second Taller de Tapas. Once Barcelona’s commercial heart, this area is now known for its designer boutiques and some of the best shopping in town. The listed building, dating from the 16th century, was originally a nun’s convent. Converted with care and respect it is now a lively, expansive restaurant. Its floor-to-ceiling front windows look out over a picturesque square where you can eat gourmet local delicacies from the Costa Brava such as king prawns from Palamòs and Nuri’s home made fresh goat’s cheese drizzled with honey in the shade of a tree. Its long bar and kitchen are an island of fine food and wine inside the big central room. Argenteria pulsates with life morning, noon and night. It’s a great place to eat – but a fun place to meet people too.
